Hello, I'm Janet. I help my clients polish their work and to get their message across clearly to their chosen audience. Clarity and elegance are vital to successful authors, be they individuals or large organizations.
I am an experienced communications professional, specializing in editing (at all levels, including rewriting) academic and non-fiction work. My specialist topic is law and all connected fields, as I was a litigation lawyer for 20 years in my past career. My clients include publishers, academics, law firms, international development agencies, think tanks, government departments, professional services firms.
In addition, I specialize in editing and proofreading social sciences, humanities, and business books, articles and conference papers for academic presses, academics, researchers, students, NGOs, international development agencies and think tanks. I have over 13 years of editorial experience, during which I have edited or proofread 575 books and journal articles, 700+ conference papers, articles, commentaries, reviews, position papers, book reviews, research reports, blog posts, capability papers, RFPs, and a number of theses and dissertations.
I am a member of the international editorial collective Editing Globally (EditingGlobally.com), a group of experienced editorial professionals who provide seamless and thorough editorial services to clients around the world.
I have extensive experience of working with authors for whom English is not their first language. My attention to detail is exemplary and I particularly enjoy communicating with authors.
I believe in the importance of mentorship in the profession and have mentored other editors and proofreaders, both formally and informally. Teaching at Queen's University, Professional Studies, Faculty of Education (Professional Editing Standards Certificate) is a continuation of my commitment to mentorship.
My Editing Globally colleagues and I are open to teaching and to leading sessions at conferences. Also, I enjoy talking to groups, be they large or small, about editing, proofreading, and the publishing industry generally.
