I am an experienced communications professional, specializing in editing (at all levels, including rewriting) academic and non-fiction work. My specialist topic is law and all connected fields, as I was a litigation lawyer for 20 years in my past career. My clients include publishers, academics, law firms, international development agencies, think tanks, government departments, professional services firms.
In addition, I specialize in editing and proofreading social sciences, humanities, and business books, articles and conference papers for academic presses, academics, researchers, students, NGOs, international development agencies and think tanks. I have over 13 years of editorial experience, during which I have edited or proofread 450 books and journal articles, 300 conference papers, articles, commentaries, reviews, position papers, book reviews, and research reports, and a number of theses and dissertations.
I am a member of the international editorial collective Editing Globally (EditingGlobally.com), a group of experienced editorial professionals who provide seamless and thorough editorial services to clients around the world.
I have extensive experience of working with authors for whom English is not their first language. My attention to detail is exemplary and I particularly enjoy communicating with authors.
I mentor other editors and proofreaders, both formally, as a past member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (UK) mentorship program and in the past as a member of the Editors' Association of Canada Toronto branch's mentorship committee, and informally.
I enjoy talking to groups, be they large or small, about editing, proofreading, and the publishing industry generally. My Editing Globally colleagues and I are open to teaching and to leading sessions at conferences.
